17 contestants vie for beauty queen title

Seventeen contestants will compete for the title of Miss Choco, a department in western Colombia.

“This year we wanted to give more importance to the fundamental principle of the competition, the social responsibility of the winner to coordinate actions to benefit the underserved population of the department,” said Barno Khadjibaeva, current reigning queen of Choco.

The coronation ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 20 at 8PM in the auditorium of the Technological University of Choco.

Choco is Colombia’s poorest department and has a large Afro-Colombian population.
