17 Colombians detained in Spain for trafficking drugs

A group of 17 Colombian citizens, one Venezuelan and one Moroccan were arrested in Barcelona, Spain for drug trafficking, reported Spanish police Thursday morning.

The 19 men were accused of forming part of a cocaine trafficking organization active in the Spanish cities of Barcelona and Tarragona, wrote Spanish news agency EFE.

According to reports the organization was led by a Colombian man and functioned as “an enterprise,” complete with a contact telephone, distribution network and a large circle of clients that could obtain illegal drugs at any time of the day.

Some three and a half kilos of cocaine, 13,500 Euros and six vehicles were seized during the operation. The raid was the result of more than six months of intelligence work, said police.

This is not Spanish authorities first encounter with the group’s leader, as he was previously arrested and charged with drug trafficking in the European country.
