At least 16 dead in central Colombia bus crash

A bus crash in central Colombia on Monday left 16 dead and 15 injured, reported local media.

According to local news outlets, an International Tourism Transport bus heading from Bogota to Cali crashed en route near the small town of Girardot. The bus apparently lost control on a bend and the ensuing collision claimed the lives of 16 people while 25 others were injured.

The bus, with 40 people on board, was said to be carrying exhibitors bound for an artisans’ exhibition in Cali in southwest Colombia.

The injured were taken to medical centers in Fusagasuga, Silvania and Soacha, Cundinamarca. Forensics teams arrived promptly and police reported that the road has been closed.
