153 hostages died in the hands of the ELN

The spokeswoman says the amount of kidnappings by the ELN has increased over the past few years in the departments of Araúca and the capital of Meta, Villavicensio.

According to Calle, the ELN only takes hostages for extortion purposes and does not have kidnapped politicians, which means that each family has to make an individual process of negotiating with the ELN to free their kidnapped loved one.

Earlier, País Libre reported the ELN has abducted over 3000 people between 2000 and 2007. The foundation is currently trying to demand more attention for the victims of ELN abductions, who they call “a forgotten group”, because of the attention given to hostages of the FARC.
