12 ELN guerrillas demobilize in south Colombia

The Colomban army claimed Tuesday that 12 guerrillas have demobilized in the southwest of the country.

The rebels were allegedly members of the ELN, Colombia’s second largest guerrilla group.

The ELN laid down their arms in Barbacoas, a municipality in the department of Nariño. The ex guerrillas also handed over one rifle, a number of revolvers, other hand guns and a store of ammunition.

Colombian radio station Caracol radio reported that nine men and three women demobilized.

The ELN is a Marxist guerrilla group that formed in 1964 is active throughout Colombia.
