11 suspected members of Medellin assassin gang captured

Medellin Metropolitan Police captured 11 alleged members of “Los Mondongueros,” a criminal organization which terrorizes Comunas 5 and 6 in the city, Colombian media reported.

The special investigation unit of the police, Sijin, carried out intelligence reports which indicated that the group is responsible for more than 50 murders in the areas between 2008 and 2011. The detainees, aged 26 to 54, included one 36-year-old woman, alias “Yudy.”

The suspected will also be charged with conspiracy, extortion, forced displacement and personal injury.

Brigadier General Yessid Vasquez Prada, commander of the Metropolitan Police believed the arrests bring authorities closer to capturing the leader of the criminal gang, alias “Esneider.”

According to reports, the arrests are thought to be the most severe blow to the gang this year because its assassin network was disrupted.
