10 soldiers dead in east Colombia combat

Ten soldiers on Sunday were killed in combat with guerrillas from the FARC in the eastern Colombian department of Arauca, army sources told local media.

The army is involved in heavy fighting with guerrillas in Arauquita, a municipality bordering Venezuela.

According to the army, the soldiers were killed while trying to prevent the guerrillas from destroying an electricity tower.

On Saturday, three soldiers died in a minefield and one DAS official died in an attack in the same department.
