Visitors to Colombia’s capital city Bogota were responsible for $1.2 billion of the city’s spending, according to the Tourism Observatory of the District Institute of Tourism (IDT).
DIT figures show that visitor spending in the first half of 2013 increased 25 percent compared to the same period last year. Domestic tourists accounted for 70 percent of total expenditure and international tourists accounted for 30 percent.
The study also investigated the origin of international visitors. The largest volume of international tourist spending comes from the United States, followed by Ecuador, Venezuela and Spain.

The survey also claims that a foreign tourist spends an average of $770 during their stay while a visitor from elsewhere in Colombia spends an average of $332.
IDT director Luis Fernando Londoño Rosas said: “Today it is truer than ever before that Bogota is entering a new time. It is the fashion capital of the continent in all sectors of tourism, such as business, entertainment, shopping, dining, nature and religious tours.”
