‘Narc-deco’ art exhibition to open in Bogota

A new “narc-deco” art exhibition in will open in Bogota’s Galeria Valenzuela Klenner on January 28.

“Traquira: following the aesthetic of narc-deco,” by artist Victor Escobar, takes aspects of the drug-trafficking trade and transforms them into works of art.

With the aim to artistically represent the social phenomenon of drug-trafficking and it’s aesthetic manifestations in Colombian society, the exhibition involves artisan crafts covered in diamonds, carvings draped in exquisite velvets and sculptures adorned with jewels.

The exhibition’s curator, Jaime Ceron, explains that “when artists of this generation show an interest in the phenomenon of aesthetic form they do so in order to connect with other dimensions of reality that they find more unsettling and disturbing.”

The exhibition will run on the second and third floors of the gallery until February 27. To find out more, click here.
