Wigan signs Rodallega

Wigan completed the signing of Colombia striker Hugo Rodallega on Monday and hopes to field him against Liverpool on Wednesday.

Rodallega signed a 3 1/2-year deal with the Latics, who paid Mexican
club Necaxa 4.5 million pounds ($6.21 million; $4.77 million) for him.

The Premier League club, which sold striker Emile Heskey to Aston
Villa on Friday, has already secured a work permit for the striker and
now needs to get international clearance for Rodallega, who has scored
six goals in 21 appearances for Colombia.

“It has taken a while to get all the paperwork completed on what has
been quite a complicated transfer, but I’m relieved it’s all been
finalized,” Wigan manager Steve Bruce said.

“I believe this lad can be as big a success in this country as some
of our other imports. He is strong and quick, with an eye for goal and
I am convinced he can adapt to the pace and physicality of the
Premier League.” (AP)
