The United Nations’ food agency World Food Programme (WFP) designated
US$100 million to meet the needs of people displaced by violence in
Colombia.
Colombia’s ambassador to the WFP, Sabas Pretelt de la Vega, told Caracol Radio the money will be given to the Presidential office Acción Social to invest in local markets and attend the displaced. Pretelt said the money will be used to buy goods inside Colombia.
The number of displaced people in Colombia is estimated at between 2.4 and 4 million people.
