Visiting fans at soccer matches in Colombia have been ordered not to wear team shirts, carry banners or club flags.
The move was instituted by Dimayor, which runs
Colombian soccer, following weekend violence in the city of Armenia,
where fans and police clashed in a match between Quindio and Atletico
Nacional. The rival groups attacked each other with sticks and knives.
At least 15 were injured — including three police — and 30 were
arrested.
“Beginning from this date and until there are
further orders, people carrying anything that makes reference to the
visiting team (shirts, flags, caps, etc.) are prohibited from entering
the stadiums,” Dimayor said in a statement.
Dimayor also asked home clubs not to sell tickets in blocks to visiting fans.
Two club presidents — Juan Carlos Lopez of
Millonarios and Carlos Puente of America — said they disapproved of
the new measures. (AP)
