Villegas leads after day one at BMW Championship

by Jonathan Roorda September 6, 2008

Colombian golfer Camilo Villegas occupies the top spot in the rankings
of the BMW Championship in St. Louis, Missouri after day one.

Villegas, who finished shared third at the Deutsche Bank Open last
week, needed only 65 strokes to complete the Bellerive Country Club
course on Friday. This five under par score is one stroke better than
his nearest competitors.

The Colombian had a good start on the opening
day, with five birdies and just one bogey in the first nine holes. The
second half of the course did give Villegas some more difficulties with
three birdies and two bogeys, but the result after 18 holes was enough
to take the first place.

Home players Steve Stricker, Kenny Perry and
Tim Herron, Argentinian Andres Romero and the well known Australian
Stuart Appleby currently share the second place.

The BMW Championship
finishes on Sunday.
