After years of resistance, the Colombian government gave in to Congress
demands and included victims of state violence in the country’s Law of
Victims, which gives victims of the conflict the right to claim
compensation.
However, victims of agression by the security forces will only be able to claim reparation if it has been proven that the perpetrator was a state official abusing his authority.
Victims of agression by one of the country’s illegal armed groups have easier access to reparation.
