Venezuela’s acting president vows to do ‘everything and more’ to achieve peace in Colombia

Venezuela’s acting President Nicolas Maduro said Monday he will do everything “and more” to guarantee success for peace talks held between rebel group FARC and the Colombian government.

While attending a rally with supporters, Maduro said he was “fully committed” to the peace process taking place in Venezuela’s neighbor to the west.

“We will do everything we need to do and more to help Colombia with the peace process, with the reconsiliation,” said the acting President.

“For us, peace in Colombia is peace in our own nation,” Maduro added.

The Venezuelan leader came into office earlier this year after the death of predecessor Hugo Chavez who had been elected President only months before. Because of Chavez’ death, Venezuelans will return to the ballot box in April to choose between Maduro and opposition candidate Henrique Capriles.

Venezuela, together with Chile, is guarantor of the Colombian peace talks that are taking place in the Cuban capital of Havana.
