Tens of people gathered in La Parada, on the Colombia-Venezuela border, on Sunday to commemorate and protest the death of Colombian Misael Parado Gomez, thought to have died at the hands of Venezuelan border police, reported Colombia media.

Misael’s coffin was accompanied by his friends and family as it was driven through the border town in which, according to eye-witness testimonies, he was shot by Venezuelan border guards.

Reports state that Misael was attempting to cross the border illegally when he was shot.

A witness of the event said, “They started shooting and one of these made Misael fall, when they saw, the guards left because people started throwing rocks to those that had been shooting and we collected the body and took it through to Colombia.”

Sunday’s protest ended with participants calling for investigation into the assassination of the 30-year-old victim by the Colombian government.
