Venezuela denies wanting to build military bases near border Colombia

Venezuela Monday denied earlier reports it will build five military
bases
close to its border with Colombia. The Bolivarian Press Agency
says the government will build five “public safety zones”.

According to the government-alligned press agency the words of minister Tarek El Aissami were misinterpreted and there will be no military bases at all.

The five “public safety zones” in Zulia, a state bordering Colombia in the north and the Sierra de Períja are to protect the indigenous populations of the areas from paramilitaries and drug traffickers, ABP now says.
