Venezuela denies presence of FARC commanders in its territory

Venezuela Interior Minister Tarek El Aissami Monday rejected a report
by Colombian newspaper El Tiempo that a number of the FARC’s highest
commanders would be residing in his country.

El Tiempo Monday reported that only three members of the FARC’s secretariat currently are within Colombian borders and that the others live in Venezuela, Cuba and Ecuador.

According to the minister, the newspaper article has “little relevance”, because it is part of a long
campaign to “link the Venezuelan government with illegal organizations.”

Early March, Colombian RCN Radio announced eleven of the FARC’s military commanders would be residing in other countries, basing its report on undisclosed Colombian intelligence documents.
