Vallenato’s Jorge Celedon to play official FIFA tune at drawing

Vallenato musician Jorge Celedon will sing his tune “Nuestra fiesta,” chosen as the official song of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Colombia 2011, at Wednesday’s drawing, newspaper El Espectador reported.

Celedon will be accompanied by his accordionist Jimmy Zambrano at the ceremony, which commences at 7PM in the convention center of the city of Cartagena, capital of the Bolivar department.

The song describes the passion that is felt by soccer fans, making it an appropriate pick for the cup, which kicks off on July 29 with the participation of 24 teams.

A number of other well-known faces will be present at the drawing, including the mayor of Cartagena, the directors of the Colombia Soccer Federation, and former soccer players Carlos “El Pibe” Valderrama and Oscar Cordoba.

At the end of the drawing, Celedon will give copies of the song to representatives of the chosen teams, so that the Colombian tune may be taken to their respective countries.
