Valle del Cauca elects Miss Colombia representative

The southwestern department of Valle del Cauca on Wednesday elected its representative of the department at Miss Colombia in November.

Miss Tania Valencia Cuero will represent Valle del Cauca, traditionally one of the strongest contestants, in Miss Colombia. The 23-year-old from Candelaria was among the favorites when 14 hopefuls were elected in late May.

In Wednesday’s coronation of a new departamental Miss, Valencia received the crown from current Miss Colombia and fellow Valle del Cauca citizen, Carmen Lucia Aldana.

The new Miss told the press that she considers her self-confidence as her strongest card in the competition.

“I was sure, I felt calm, it was a beautiful experience, and what motivated me the most was the people’s energy,” said the new beauty queen.

The southwestern beauty is currently a music student, and has previously been catwalk modelling with her twin sister. She has once previously entered the popular beauty contest, but was forced to leave because she contracted chickenpox.

As a pice of advice for the new Queen, Miss Universe candidate Aldana said, “The best advice I could give is to be yourself.”

Currently, the Valle del Cauca department has produced 10 Misses Colombia since the beauty pageant began in 1934. Only one other department, Atlantico, has a number this high.
