The lawyers of Guillermo Valencia Cossio, former director of Medellín’s
prosecution and the brother of the current Justice Minister, were
granted more time to prepare their defense against the indictment for
alleged involvement with the mafia.
The Prosecution had handed over evidence that according to Valencia’s defense, was “impossible” to review quickly. They asked for a suspension until mid January to be able to conclude the preparations.
The evidence against the former Medellín Prosecution chief consists of several hours of recordings of phone conversations Valencia Cossio had with the number two of Daniel ‘Don Mario’ Rendón’s organization.
‘Don Mario’ is suspected of being one of Colombia’s biggest and most powerful drug lords.
