US rep, Colombia VP discuss FTA

U.S. Democratic Representative Sander Levin met with Colombian Vice President Angelino Garzon Friday to discuss the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), according to a press release from the vice president.

The representative has been one of the main opponents to the pending trade pact due to concerns about human and labor rights in Colombia.

Garzon described the meeting as very cordial and positive, and said both parties are eager to continue the dialogue about trade relations when the vice president visits Washington from January 23 – 29.

U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk announced Thursday in a press conference that although the U.S. favors a trade pact with Colombia, it will prioritize a FTA with South Korea before Colombia.
