Admiral Michael Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the
U.S. armed forces, is “very positive” about Colombia sending
troops to Afghanistan.
Mullen was in Bogotá Thuesday to talk about Colombian military authorities about Colombia’s mission to the Asian country.
“The Colombian promise to send troops to Agfhanistan is a very positive step,” the admiral said after meeting Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos and the chiefs of staff of the Colombian military.
Colombia promised to send in between 120 and 150 troops to Afghanistan to help the ISAF in demining activities.
Colombia and the U.S. are also negotiating to strengthen military collaboration, Colombia’s Defense Ministry said after the meeting.
