United States Congress sent its congratulations to the parties involved
in the successful release of six FARC hostages earlier this week.
The press statement, issued by Democratic Representatives Jim McGovern and Bill Delahunt congratulates Colombian senator and mediator Piedad Córdoba, ICRC representative Christophe Benéy, the Colombian Government’s High Commissioner for Peace Luis Carlos Restrepo and Brazil’s Foreign Minister Celso Luiz Nunez.
The Congressmen “want to express our congratulations and sincere appreciation for teh role played in the events of the release of six Colombian citizens held hostage bye the FARC for more than six years.”
“We invite you to continue your efforts to achieve the release of all hostages, so they can be re-united with their families and loved ones,” the Representatives add.
The card urges the FARC to continue releasing the hostages that are still kept in the Colombian jungles.
The FARC release six hostages throughout the past week. The six were part of the group of hostage the guerrillas want to exchange for 500 guerrillas who are currently in Colombian and U.S. prisons.
