Uribe to meet Chávez in Caracas

Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez announced Friday the visit of his Colombian counterpart Álvaro Uribe next week.

Chávez announced the visit in an interview with Telesur that was held while flying from China to Cuba for a meeting with President Raúl Castro and former President and friend of Chávez, Fidel Castro.

The leftist Venezuelan President, discussing his activities for the next few week, stated that “the President of Colombia will visit us,” adding that “the relation with Colombia is very important.” Chavez also explained that Venezuela and its western neighbor are “reconstructing” what was “destroyed” in the crisis following the Colombian attack on a FARC camp in Ecuador.

“Because, aside from the ideological difference between the one government and the other, there is a changing dynamic,” Chávez said.

He did not however reveal exactly when Uribe is expected in Caracas. The Colombian Presidency Friday did not confirm the news.
