The President’s attendance at the global summit in the Danish capital of Copenhagen was in question after he cancelled his attendance at the Latin American climate change summit in Brazil for health reasons.
At the conference Colombia will push for industrialized nations to commit to reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. Colombia will voluntarily implement a plan to reduce its own emissions.
The Andean nation will also ask industrialized nations to finance programs to assist developing countries affected by climate change.
Colombian delegates in Copenhagen will seek an agreement on forest protection. The premise of the agreement is that developing countries that reduce deforestation will receive economic compensation.
Uribe will be in Copenhagen from December 15 to 19.
