Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, speaking about the FARC guerrilla group Monday at the 6th European – Latin American Summit in Madrid, said that “some countries” are tools of terrorist groups, which know how to turn nations into “useful idiots.”
“Terrorism is an evil that metastasizes if it is not confronted. Moreover terrorism knows how to turn some countries into useful idiots. First they flatter them, they seek shelter and then they end up sacrificing them,” Uribe said, without naming any particular country.
In the past Uribe has accused neighboring Venezuela of allowing the FARC to seek refuge within its borders.
Uribe is in Madrid to attend the summit and Wednesday will sign the Colombia-Peru-EU free trade agreement.
