Uribe presents new PG candidate

by Adriaan Alsema December 10, 2009

Colombia news - Margarita Cabello

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe proposed a new candidate for the position of the country’s Prosecutor General, four months after the last elected Prosecutor General left office.

The Supreme Court has so far refused to elect any of the three-person shortlist, claiming the Presidency’s nominee selections were all unworkable. Media and NGOs have denounced the fact that so far, none of the President’s nominees have any experience with penal law.

The nominee Uribe added to the shortlist on Wednesday, Margarita Cabello Blanco, also has no experience in penal law, but a long history as judge and professor in civil and family law.
