Uribe denied already having dropped the idea of the referendum, saying he is “studying” the matter, Colombian newspaper El Espectador reports.The Government started the preperation for a popular vote after the country’s Supreme Court ordered the Constitutional Court to investigate the elections possible illegality after former congresswoman Tidis Medina was convicted for bribery.Medina testified having changed her vote after (former) member of the Uribe administration had offered her political favours. The prosecution has officially accused one former and one current minister of the cabinet of having bribed the former congresswoman.Uribe furiously denies the bribery and accused the Supreme Court is trying to take revenge for not consulting them about the extradition of paramilitary heads in May. The President accuses some members of the Court of having ties with them.
