Uribe ‘blesses’ presidential candidacy Arias

by Adriaan Alsema March 11, 2009

Colombia news - Andres Felipe Arias

Colombian President Álvaro Uribe sent a letter to Andrés
Felipe ‘Uribito’ Arias to support the former minister’s presidential
aspirations.

The former agriculture Minister and current candidate to lead the Conservative Party to the 2010 elections received a letter from his former boss, giving him full support for “the new challenge” he undertook.

“Your decision to accept new challenges in service of the people are commendable. With your irrevocable resignation to the Ministry of Agriculture, Colombia was temprarily deprived of a great public servant of the State,” Uribe wrote to what many consider his prodigy.

“Colombia wins a great leader to take the lead (…) in the defense of a policy to which you have committed yourself to by conviction and compatriotism,” the letter continued.

The President end the letter wishing “Dr. Andrés” a lot of succes. “You have decided to take the leap to successfully lead a political movement and the challenge to lead joint public policies. I wish you and this wish good wind and good sea and I hope your providence is filled with blessings.”
