UNICEF honors Shakira

by Javier Emilio Valencia September 21, 2009

Colombia news - Shakira

World famous Colombian singer Shakira received the ‘Child Right Award’ from UNICEF Germany on Monday, the organization’s press office reported.

“Shakira has committed herself to the children and young people of the world’ Regine Stachelhaus, Executive Director of UNICEF Germany, said at the presentation of the award in Offenburg, Germany.

The ‘Child Rights Award’ recognizes the sustained commitment of stars who volunteer as UNICEF international ambassadors  to help children and young people to get involved against violence, poverty, and AIDS, and advocate for their right to education.

Shakira has been a UNICEF ambassador since 2003 and has represented UNICEF worldwide. She is also the founder of projects that promote young children education, such as the Barefoot School in Colombia, the International Barefoot Foundation, and ALAS Foundation for Latin America.
