UN to help pushing liberation of Acuña: Councilmen

The United Nations agreed to help push the liberation of a Huila
Councilman who was kidnapped by the FARC in May, the National
Federation of Councilmen said.

According to federation president Fabio Estrada Chica, his organization’s request help with forcing the liberation of councilman Armando Acuña was granted and the UN appointed a delegate to assist the federation.

“We are working hard to ensure that councilor Acuña returns safe and healthy. A United Nations delegate has already been appointed to intervene in the process,” Estrada Chica told newspaper La Nacion.

Estrada Chica also demanded President Uribe, the director of the Police and the director of the DAS to specify the allegations that the council of Garzon had been infiltrated to facilitate the attack taht led to the kidnapping of the councilor.

“We need the Government to clarify this matter. Therefore we demonstrate our respect but strong protest”, because these allegations lead to mistrust among the councilmen about who is a possible infiltrator, Estrada Chica added.

The FARC kidnapped José Armando Acuña of the day from the Garzon Palace of Justice on 29
May.
