UN representative inspects situation displaced

The Representative on Internally Displaced of the United Nations’
Secretary General is in Colombia to inspect the situation and the
protection of rights of people displaced by Colombia’s violent conflict.

The five-day visit of Walter Kalin, representative of the UN’s Secretary General, is a follow up of his visit to Colombia two years ago.

Kalin visited the Constitutional Court Tuesday. The Constitutional Court and the Government clashed on several occasions over the past few years about the status of the displaced and the funds to help them.

The delegate will also meet vice-President Francisco Santos, Ombudsman Wólmar Pérez, Attorney General Edgardo Maya Villazón and will travel to the north of the country to talk to representatives of the displaced.
