UK and US military seize 5.5 tons of cocaine off Colombian coast

In a joint effort, Britain’s Royal Navy and the U.S. Coastguard, seized 5.5 tons of Colombian cocaine just off the Caribbean coast of the country. The bust is the largest ever in the history of the Royal Navy.

The drugs — with an estimated value of US$380 million — were found on a shipping vessel that was searched after it had shown suspicious behavior.

It took the Coastguard and Navy 24 hours to find the drugs, that was hidden underneath a concrete floor in the bottom of the ship.

The vessel was sunk after the drugs and crew were taken off it.

According to the BBC, the bust was the Brits’ third large seizure of drugs in South America in recent months.
