Two plead guilty to kidnap of US citizen in Cali

Two Colombians have pleaded guilty to charges of kidnapping U.S. citizen Robert Paul Simmons in in the western city of Cali last February, reported Colombian media on Wednesday.

Paula Andrea Arce Londoño and Diego Alexander Galviz Torres were arrested on February 23, alongside ten other people, charged with kidnapping, theft and possession of illegal firearms.

After an indictment hearing held in Cali’s criminal court, Galviz Torres accepted all charges against him, whilst Arce Londoño pleaded guilty to acting as an accomplice in the kidnapping of the American.

Robert Paul Simmons was abducted after entering a taxi in the city’s San Fernando region, after which armed men boarded the vehicle and forced the man to surrender his belongings and withdraw more than $750 from an ATM.

The remaining suspects are still awaiting trial in the Villahermosa and El Buen Pastor city penitentiaries.
