Two congressmen convicted for parapolitics

Colombia’s Supreme Court sentenced two congressmen for having signed a pact with paramilitary organization AUC in 2001.

The criminal division sentenced Reginaldo Montes (Cambio Radical) and Juan Manuel Lopez (Liberal Party) to six year in jail. Montes will also have to pay a 900 million peso (US$ 44 thousand) fine.

Both congressmen signed the 2001 Ralito Pact, an agreement between politicians, businessmen and far right paramilitaries to secure political power.
