Colombian truckers are divided about the deal made with the government
to end their strike. Some have gone back to work, but others are
refusing to.
Members of the board of Colombian truckers union ACC went as far as dismissing chairman Jorge Garcia who had brokered a deal with the government that would end the strike. The board says Garcia did not consult the union before signing the agreement.
“The strike continues. (…) We do not accept the agreement reached with the Government, because Garcia did not consult the board and the agreement does not provide any solution to the crisis the truckers are in,” one of the board members told newspaper La Republica.
However, in some parts of the country truckers are back at work again, Portafolio reported Monday. According to the economic paper, there are no signs of a strike in the port of Cartagena.
