Truckers continue strike after failed talks

The Colombian government and the Colombian Truckers Association (ACC)
were not able to reach an agreement on lower fuel prices that would end
a national strike.

Representatives of the government and the truckers talked fruitlessly for thirteen hours on Monday. The truckers demand the government lowers the price of fuel with more than the promised 500 pesos per gallon and keeps the promises made that ended a strike in 2008.

When oil prices soared until the end of last year, consumer fuel prices increased too, but Colombia has kept the price on the level of 2008, despite a drop in the price of crude oil.

ACC chairman Jorge Garcia said that the association orders all truckers to continue their strike until the government gives in to their demands.

The ACC and Transport Minister Andrea Uriel Gallego will meet again Tuesday.
