A tropical depression has formed in the southwestern Caribbean, prompting a storm warning for the Colombian San Andres archipelago.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami said the 11th tropical depression of the season formed Wednesday morning. It had maximum sustained winds near 35 mph (55 kph) and is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm later in the day or Wednesday night.
The depression’s center is about 125 miles (200 kilometers) east-southeast of Bluefields, Nicaragua. It is moving toward the northwest near 8 mph (13 kph).
Colombia issued tropical storm warnings for the islands of San Andres and Providencia.
