Traffic accident kills 7, wounds 20 in northern Colombia

Seven people were killed and at least 20 injured in a traffic accident in northern Colombia Sunday.

According to witnesses, a speeding minibus veered off the road and crashed into a supply truck when the driver tried to return to the lane. The supply truck then collided with another bus.

According to reports, at least one of the buses rolled over.

“Some people were trapped in the bus and there were agonizing moments to get them out,” one witness told El Universal.

The accident occurred two kilometers from Carreto, in the northern department of Bolivar. The victims were passangers with the Torcroma bus company and were en route from Carmen de Bolivar to Barranquilla.

The critically injured were taken to hospitals in Cartagena for treatment, while those with minor injuries were sent to hospitals in El Carmen de Bolivar.
