Traffic accident in Meta kills 9, injures 13

Nine people died and another 13 were injured in a traffic accident in the central Colombian Meta department, west of the department capital Villavicencio.

The accident took place on the road connecting Villavicencio to the eastern city of Puerto Gaitan. A bus, traveling in between the two cities crashed against a stranded truck.

Local police confirmed the fatal accident.

“We believe the accident was the result of speeding by the bus that didn’t see the parked truck,” deputy director of the police’s traffic and Transport unit said.

The injured were taken to hospitals in Puerto Gaitan, some 40 miles west of the accident.

According to Caracol Radio, among the dead are four women and five men, all adults.
