Investigations of the illegal wiretapping of Colombia’s peace talks gained speed on Thursday, as the Office of the Prosecutor General tracked and seized assets of people involved in the scandal, Caracol Radio reported.
The director of the Technical Investigation Team (CTI), Julian Quintana was quoted by Caracol Radio as saying that the Prosecutor General Office started tracking the assets of both military and civilians who participated in illegally spying the peace process between the government and the country’s largest insurgency FARC.
“We started the investigations, because we are on the subject of detection of assets and forfeiture of all those involved in this case,” Quintana told Caracol Radio.
The CTI director also mentioned that authorities found clear connections between the illegal interceptions of the Army and the equipment found in the house of hacker Andres Sepulveda. .
Sepulveda was arrested on May 6 after agents from the Prosecutor General’s technical investigation team (CTI) raided an apartment in the capital Bogota, where they discovered surveillance equipment allegedly used to intercept electronic communications about ongoing peace negotiations with rebel group FARC as well as information on Zuluaga’s primary opponent in the election race, Juan Manuel Santos.
A video has also emerged on May 17 showing the hacker arrested for spying on Colombia’s peace talks, informing presidential candidate Oscar Ivan Zuluaga about allegedly stolen military intelligence.

On Wednesday authorities in western Colombia arrested another suspect in relation to the ongoing scandal surrounding alleged illegal wiretapping on the part of a presidential campaign contractor.
The CTI captured Ecuadorian national Daniel Agustin Bajaña in the Candelaria municipality of the western state of Valle del Cauca, under suspicion of abusive access to systems of information, interception, and obtaining information for the purposes of espionage.
