Tight security in Arauca prison for alleged child killer

The Prosecutor General’s Office ordered tight security measures in prison where Sergeant Raul Muñoz Linares, who is being charged with the murder of three children in the Arauca department, will be held, reports W Radio.

Linares, of the army’s mobile 5th brigade, is under investigation for his involvement in the rape and murder of Yenni Torres Jaimes,13, and the murders of her two brothers, Jimmy Ferney, 9, and Yovani Jefferson, 6.

The three children were found buried near their house in Caño Tamblador in the municipality of Tame.

A special commission has been set up to investigate the “the abominable crime on three defenseless children,” by Congress president Armando Benedetti.

Seven military officers have been suspended in connection to the murders and 60 members of two battalions of the 5th brigade are currently under investigation.

“If Colombia wants to continue being part of the civilized world, it can not allow these cases to occur with impunity. The facts demand compassion for the victims and outright rejection by civil society and institutions,” said Benedetti.

“I pray to the gods that, counter to the evidence, military personnel are not linked to these crimes,” he added.

Army commander General Alejandro Navas said that he would not tolerate human rights violations by the army and would co-operate fully with the investigation.

Benedetti said that the commission will submit a report on its findings in 15 days.
