Thousands of fish choke in contaminated river in north Colombia

Thousands of dead fish washed up on the banks of a river in north Colombia on Monday, leading to accusations that a nearby construction project is contaminating the local water systems.

Environmental body La Corporación Autónoma del Cesar linked the mass death to the nearby Ruta del Sol road construction, claiming that waste materials from the site were reducing the oxygen content of the water and choking the fish.

Locals also suggested to news channel Noticias Uno that a recent fumigation may be responsible for contaminating the water.
