Mystery Rene Higuita impersonator revealed

by Ashley Hamer October 19, 2009

The prize for Best Rene Higuita Impersonation could not have been more deserved than by the fan who cloned the legendary Colombian goalkeeper impeccably at the grand event held in the Atletico Nacional stadium in Medellin on Sunday.

According to Nacional’s website, Higuita himself watched the event firsthand for a platform as several characters filed up to be judged the most convincing impersonators – an honor the goalkeeper surely would have considered one of the highlights of his career!

Tragically the prize winner’s identity was lost in the colossal mayhem which took place in the judging tent and the winner remained mysteriously nameless.

On Wednesday however, the lucky fan was called to the Nacional Football Team’s office in Medellin where he gave his full name, which was publically revealed as Carlos Mario Colorado – though for the longest time his friends and relatives had nicknamed him Rene or Higuita.

Colorado, a 51 year old football worshipper, received his prize along with the full sports club kit and the privilege of bearing the colours of a faithfull Atletico Nacional devotee.
