Teenage Colombian vallenato star dies during plastic surgery

An 18-year-old singer has died during surgery to improve her nose in north eastern Colombia.

Katyuska Mendoza, a member of the Vallenatos Children band, had the operation at a clinic in Valledupar.

The teenager had been singing since she was eight years old and was named best female artist at the Voices ExpoFestival in Valledupar twice.

Vallenatos Children sang at the inauguration of former U.S. president Bill Clinton in 2004.

Mendoza’s funeral will take place on Thursday in Fonseca, Guajira department.
