Team Colombia place at cycling race Giro 2014 confirmed

Team Colombia received their official invitation from cycling race organizers of the Giro 2014 Thursday, according to local media Semana.

Team Colombia will be taking part for only the second time in the competition which begins in May later this year.  Team Colombia received their official invitation from the competition’s organizer’s this morning along with three other teams:  Androni Giocattoli-Venezuela, CSF and Yellow Fluo Bardiani.

The 97th edition of the competition begins in Northern Ireland, travels down through the Republic of Ireland and then on in to Italy totalling over 2,000 miles.

Team Colombia, coached by Claudio Corti, will be led by Fabio Durate but will be without their top performer of 2013, Darwin Atapuma, who has joined BMC Racing.

The team, supported by the government sponsored Coldeportes and the Colombian Olympic Committee, will look to improve on last year’s performance of which the highlight was a second place finish for Durate at Stage 20 of the race.
