Taxi explodes in central Colombia: 6 dead

Six people were killed in central Colombia on Sunday when a taxi exploded. Authorities blamed the FARC.

According to Colombia’s defense minister Juan Carlos Pinzon, the tragedy in the Meta department was a “cowardly attack” by FARC rebels who detonated explosives attached to the car when passing a police post.

However, according to newspaper El Pais, authorities were investigating the possibility the tragedy was an accident.

Either way, the fatal explosion that killed two minors took place on the same day Pinzon visited Villavicencio, the capital of Meta, to preside a security meeting with local authorities.

Following the explosion, authorities increased the numbers of bomb checks on cars in the region.
