Tamarind seed sprouts inside boy’s nose

A
12-year-old boy from the north of Colombia needs urgent surgery to
remove a tamarind seed from one of his nostrils, because the seed is starting to
sprout.

The incredible case was announced by the minor’s parents, when he was being taken to the local hospital’s emergency unit in the municipality of El Banco.

According to doctors and family, the strange case occurred several days ago. However, the 12 year old, Dairo Saenz Lopez, didn’t inform his parents until Tuesday.

According to the child, he was playing with other friends when suddenly seeds of the tamarind he was handling got sucked up through one of his nostrils. The seed got stuck inside the nostril. This is now causing serious problems because the seed is sprouting inside the child’s nose.

Doctors managed to get an appointment in a clinic of a nearby city, Santa Marta, on August 10, but the preoccupation of health officials has led the municipality’s Secretary of Health to seek a sooner appointment.
