Colombian health authorities on Tuesday announced that the death toll of the AH1N swine flu virus has risen to 190 with seven deaths registered in the last week.

The Ministry for Social Protection issued a statement declaring that there have now been “3,288 confirmed cases of the virus which include the deaths of 190 people across 196 Colombian municipalities,” reported newspaper El Espectador.

The ministry also reported that on Tuesday they launched another stage in the campaign to mitigate the impact of AH1N1 in Colombia by urging the use of face masks among those with flu symptoms.

The first case of the AH1N1 virus in Colombia was registered on May 3 and the first death occurred on June 4, of a woman aged 23, in the country’s capital, Bogota.
